Lip Lift
Quick Facts About Lip Lift
- Used For: Correction of thin lips and age-related lengthening of the upper lip
- Down Time: Expect swelling of the upper lip for 1-2 weeks with some bruising and swelling.
- Side Effects: Bruising and swelling are the most common side effects. The scar tends to heal very well and usually does not require any additional intervention. Makeup can be worn after 2 weeks. A laser procedure can be performed in 6-8 weeks after the surgery if needed.
- How it Works: A small amount of skin is removed from a natural crease just below the nose. This helps lift and shorten the lip, improving the balance of the lower third of the face. Ideal aesthetics of the lower third of the face is a 1/3 to 2/3 ratio of upper lip to lower lip/chin height. Over time, the volume loss of the chin and increasing length of the upper lip can disrupt this balance.
- What to Expect: Lip lifts are performed in my Fort Worth and Southlake offices and provide shortening and lifting of the upper lip. Over time, the upper lip becomes longer relative to other parts of the face. Although injectable fillers can sometimes be used to improve the appearance of the upper lip, in certain patients they can make the lip longer and can give it a “duck lip” appearance. The lip lift is a solution to that problem.
