Laser Resurfacing

Quick Facts About Laser Resurfacing

  • Used For: Correction of fine lines, wrinkles, and skin discoloration using laser energy
  • Down Time: 1-4 weeks (depending on procedure)
  • Side Effects: Most common side effect is peeling and swelling following the procedure.
  • How It Works: Laser technology is used to remove the top layer of skin. Depending on the laser technology and settings, there are a variety of different responses and expected downtimes. As your skin heals, more layers of organized collagen form which allow skin tightening, and many pre-malignant lesions and discolorations are also removed in the process. Because I utilize a variety of different technologies, I recommend an in person consultation to determine what your goals and expected downtime would be. This helps to guide me in my selection of procedure.
  • What to Expect: There will be swelling and peeling of the face that may last for 1-2 weeks. During this time, your skin is forming a new layer of skin. I often say this can be fragile like the skin of a newborn baby, so it is important to avoid any topical lotions or creams or makeups during this time which could irritate your new skin. After your skin heals, you will likely have some redness as the new blood vessels continue to promote healing. Over the course of the next few days to weeks (depending on the procedure), the redness will subside and the results will be apparent.
