How It Works

Prominent or misshapen ears can be corrected through the use of simple surgical techniques that reposition cartilage to their desired position. Incisions can be hidden behind the ears and a combination of sutures and cartilage shaping can be performed to recreate natural curves in the cartilages. This procedure is usually performed in children over the age of 5 – at which time ear growth has been nearly completed. Surgeries are typically performed on both ears at the same time in order to maximize symmetry between the ears. A dressing is worn on the ears for 1 week. After 1 week, the headband is worn during physical activity and at night for 6 weeks to prevent any displacement or trauma to the ear.

Side Effects

Most common side effect is temporary swelling and discomfort of the ears.
